Rockets Caught Out in Cumbria

Workington 62 Rye House 32
(Premier League, Saturday July 24th 2010)

The Rye House Rockets had a long, reflective journey home after suffering easily their biggest Premier League defeat of the season at Workington on Saturday. They managed just two race wins and endured no less than ten on-track heat advantages by the Comets in a comprehensive 62-32 loss.

An opening onslaught by the home side quickly took the score to 19-5 after five races and ensured that the match was swiftly over as a contest. Only later race wins from Jordan Frampton and Linus Sundstrom – and 4 point Tactical rides from the same duo – helped to stem the flow.

Team Manager John Sampford offered no excuses. “The Comets simply out-trapped us time after time after time. That’s where we lost it.

“We’ve got to re-group ahead of our Northern tour. These next three matches (at Edinburgh, Berwick and Glasgow on successive days) will really shape our Premier League season. We need to get our gating boots back on to achieve something from those meetings.”

Rye House scorers:

Linus Sundstrom 9+1 (5 rides, inc 4 as a TR)
